I spent some time
with the lighting and have a base setup of six lights at the moment,
but I'll leave that for a while - I like to leave it for a few
days and then have fresh eyes to judge when I get back to it.
I've been experimenting
with a couple of colour ranges in the lighting - I wanted to try
bringing in some complementary colours via fog materials, but
I think I'll stick with a limited range of reds for now.
One other thing I started
was the stonework. I'd initially planned to use failry basic geometry
and have the textures do all the work, but as the stonework is
very much in the foreground I wanted to give it some special attention.
I decided to model every stone. Actually making the stonework
isn't too much of a problem (and the arches were kinda fun). The
end results are of course far better, but initial tests
have shown the render's pushing 2 million polygons.
Ouch - I'm going to
need more memory.. and a good book to read for the final render.
