15 February 2003 - Day 6

Well it looks like my website is finally back online. Even though I'd paid for the domain registration and yada yada it does take a couple of days for it to make it's way back onto the net. (I guess WHOIS needs to do it's thingy with the various servers of the world.)

Anyhoo - more dragon:

I picked up the scene where I'd last left it and am glad I took some time to step back and come back with fresh eyes. It's all too easy to see something as being finished when it was just a blob an hour before. Admittedly there were only a few things that needed tweaking at this point, but it does resemble a more beleivable organic shape than a CG approximation.

Although I'm happy with the details it does still look very staid at this point. It's always the best practice to model organic detail stretched out in a linear fashion and pose the joints later.

I did a very quick and dirty skeleton just to get an idea of the final claws and make sure they're correctly proportioned to be manipulated by joints.

The pinching is bad on the inside of the joints here, but as I say, it's quick and dirty just for pre-vis and I'll fix that later with a proper rigging setup.

And finally a few more small tweaks and a quick render just for reference while I'm modelling the rest. Of course it has no textures at the moment, but that's fine for now. I always texture as the very last stage.
